agencies to assess whether a food business complies with the Food Safety and
Standards Act and maintains adequate hygiene, safety, and operational controls
throughout its operations.
Who Needs to Undergo These Audits?
FSSAI mandates Third-Party Audits for:
- High-risk food businesses operating under a Central FSSAI License, such as:
- Meat and poultry processing units
- Packaged drinking Water
- Slaughterhouses
- Dairy processing plants
- Seafood and fish processing units
- Large-scale food manufacturing and processing units
- Cold storage, warehouses, and logistics handling high-risk products
- Food catering units in establishments
- Food businesses notified by FSSAI based on risk categorizat
- FBOs voluntarily opting for the audit to demonstrate higher food safety standards.
- Units aiming for exemption from routine regulatory inspections, which may be granted if they achieve a high audit rating.
